We are very proud to announce that our practice Positive Dental Health has acquired Accreditation from QIP(Quality Innovation Performance). QIP and the Australian Dental Association Inc. (ADA Inc.) worked collaboratively to develop Introductory Dental Practice Accreditation. The Scheme encourages private dental practices to adopt the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards into existing quality systems.
Achieving accreditation demonstrates our commitment to the provision of excellent dental care and continuous quality improvement within the practice environment in Positive Dental Health.
What is Accredition?
Accreditation is the process in which certification of competency, authority, or credibility is presented.
It is, “A self-assessment and external peer assessment process used by health care organizations to accurately assess their level of performance in relation to established standards and to implement ways to continuously improve”.
Why the need for Accreditation?——Social Responsibility
Hospitals and healthcare services are vital components of any well-ordered and humane society, and will indisputably be the recipients of societal resources. That hospitals should be places of safety, not only for patients but also for the staff and for the general public, is of the greatest importance. Quality of hospitals and healthcare services is also of great interest to many other bodies, including governments, NGOs targeting healthcare and social welfare, professional organisations representing doctors, patient organisations, shareholders of companies providing healthcare services, etc.
Accreditation is not just about standard-setting: there are analytical, counseling and self-improvement dimensions to the process. There are parallel issues in evidence-based medicine, quality assurance and medical ethics and the reduction of medical error is a key role of the accreditation process. Accreditation is therefore one component in the maintenance of patient safety.
Uses of accreditation in dental Practice:
Accreditation assists dental practices to:
- Build a culture of quality and patient safety
- Reduce clinical and general risks
- Educate and engage staff in quality improvement processes and systems
- Establish competitive advantage over non-accredited dental practices, and
- Promote the quality and safety of services to both patients and the community.
Symbol of accreditation:
Dental practices accredited by QIP are encouraged to promote their achievement of accreditation through use of the Approved Accredited Symbol.
